Sometimes it’s hard to believe, but I have two teenagers in my house now. Once a home with three under three, we have graduated out of the preschool years and into the years with a high schooler, two middle schoolers, and one last elementary student.
My teens are involved in leadership in the community in a variety of ways. My 15yo Ethan, is the vice chair of our 4H Fair Board as well as a team leader on his FIRST LEGO League Team. R13 is a new member of the 4H Fair Board and was just invited to be a youth representative on the Plant Sciences Committee for 4H.
Still, I thought our homeschool group was missing the opportunity to mentor our teens as strong leaders within our group and this year I started a homeschool teen council. We meet monthly to plan events for the teens, to plan and implement events already on the homeschool calendar, and to do service projects. Meeting just since September, we’ve held one successful Monopoly Madness night and the students are currently working on “rebranding” a low attendance event which did not have an adult volunteer. Giving our homeschooled teens ownership of their own extracurricular experiences is a great exercise in leadership and I was very excited to have the chance to work with NavPress’ Ignite: Student Leadership Course.
While I’ve had influence over our homeschool group teens, I also tagged in as a leader for our church’s youth group and did lessons with those teens as well. We’ve seen some exciting conversations as students realize how much they are influenced and how they influence others. If you work with teens in any way, I encourage you to check out Ignite.
Opportunity to Mentor Young Leaders
Ignite: Student Leadership is set of classes designed to help teens become confident leaders among their peers, who lead like Jesus. Feel free to download a sample lesson and video from their website.
The purpose of this leadership course is to ignite greatness in you- as Jesus defines it- so you, in turn, can ignite greatness in others. It’s about how how you can influence others with a love-based approach to leadership vs. a power-driven one.
The course is designed for you to help get students to “take one step toward leading like Jesus” in a group they are already working or serving with in any setting whether it’s school, church, or even in your home.
Six Session Leadership Course for Teens
The student leadership Bible study course consists of six lessons each with catchy video clips along with both large and small group discussions times. It’s very easy to teach because the leader guide is pretty well scripted and blocked. This is a great feature for busy moms and leaders- very little prep time is necessary.
The six lessons are:
- Who Will I Follow?
- The Heart of a Leader- How Am I Edging God Out?
- The Heart of a Leader- How Do I Exalt God Only?
- The Head of a Leader- Where Am I Headed?
- The Hands of a Leader- How Do I Develop People?
- The Habits of a Leader- How Do I Stay Connected with God?
All the lessons help students to realize they are leaders when they influence others and to evaluate what their strengths and weaknesses are as leaders. All the while, the study points out that remaining connected to God is the way to lead well.
Available in either a CD/DVD combo pack for $89 or a digital format which includes all the document materials for $89. See both choices on their purchase option page.
