Welcome to the new nature journal calendar! Enjoy the month of November and print your November Nature Journal Calendar to help you record what’s going on in your own backyard and beyond.
How to Use the Nature Journal Calendar
There’s no right or wrong way to use the nature journal calendar. Here are a few tips:
- Download your printable calendar.
- Print the calendar.
- Use the prompts both on the calendar and below to explore some elements of nature in September.
- Draw or write your observations in the blank calendar squares. That’s why there are so many blank spaces- so you don’t feel pressured to do a million things and so that you have room to doodle it up right on the calendar.
- Put them together in a notebook or handmade book and wait for next month and a new calendar.
- Have fun!
November Nature Connections
Autumn is in full swing! In November in upstate NY the weather begins to get cold and gray with a smattering of sunny and even snowy days. In fact, we’ve already had our first full dusting of snow (in October). What does November look like where you live? Enjoy these early fall nature connections and look at your calendar for more:
- Notice the last of the deciduous leaves– Which leaves hang on the longest?
- How do people, plants, and animals prepare for winter?– Make a list of observations and talk about how we get ready.
- Look at frost under a magnifying glass– As mornings start out below freezing, sometimes frost will form. Take a walk outdoors and observe the frost close up. What shapes do you see?
- Measure the temperature and wind speed– The wind can be strong in November, helping the remainder of the leaves to fall. Keep track of wind speed and temperature this month.
- Make a fall color palette– What colors are prominent in the fall? Sometimes the sky is purple and that mixes with the gold and brown of the landscape.
No need to feel limited by our ideas! If you see something you want to note, then go ahead and put it on your calendar. We’ve been walking, listening, and taking in the any of the last warm, sunny fall days while they’re here!
