Options for Holiday & Winter Art

As many of you know, our daughter Rebecca is a creative soul and seeks to nurture that part of herself daily. I’m always on the look out for ideas, projects, and classes which make her heart sing. Here are a few we’ve enjoyed and the bonus is her brothers can join in the fun as well- Options for Holiday & Winter Art.

Online Holiday & Winter Art Classes

One of the best things about art is all the available classes online. Using online classes is a great way to encourage art in your students without being directly responsible for the instruction. We’ve used two sources in the past and continue to use them today.

One of our favorite classes is Fab Felt Holiday with Betz White. Betz is a designer who makes sewing patterns and felted items along with patterns for felted things. We have enjoyed two of her classes including this one.

Craftsy has an easy platform from which to take classes and they are available to you whenever you have time to go through them. The instructors are able to answer your questions and it’s easy to print and use the patterns provided. Class fees vary and there is almost always a sale!

In Fab Felt for the Holidays you can make:

• A poinsettia brooch which is pictured
• Snowflake ornament- various shapes are featured
• Felted wood slippers
• Felty fir trees
• Character wine sleeve
• Gingerbread house
• Scrappy Garland

You’ll also get a great lesson on collecting and felting your own wool. If you have a stack of old wool sweaters, you’ll know just what to do with them!

The Winter Wonderland Mixed Media Workshop is another video class which is great fun! There are four sessions of lessons totaling 20 or so projects. In addition to this course, there are four others to enjoy matching the seasons of the year plus Valentine’s which is a mini class.

The cost for Winter Wonderland Mixed Media Workshop is normally $147.00, but you can catch it on sale this month.

The instructor always includes an entry for the art journal. She explains how to make one and she gives ideas for entries in each course. Rebecca made this wreath from one of the project ideas well after the holiday earlier this year. I’m going to adapt this design for our Christmas cards this year. Because of these mixed media classes, we purchase great old books for tearing up and especially hymnals at our semi-annual library book sale!

eBook Winter Art
